Target100 Top Picks for Summertime Fitness

Each season, we have the opportunity to change up our exercise routines, try new things, push ourselves in new and different ways on our weight loss journey. The Target100 team loves taking advantage of all this daylight with morning or late evening walks as well as taking cardio and strength training outdoors with bootcamps in the park, hikes, bike rides, and more. There are so many way to build strength and move our bodies in ways that feel good.

We'd love to see how you are conquering the Exercise pillar this summer - take a pic, share it on social and tag us (@target100program) so we can cheer you on!

Below is a list of our favorite on-demand workout apps, fitness videos on social, podcasts we like to log steps listening too, apparel that moves with us, and equipment to keep things spicy.

Our top summertime picks for workouts, equipment, and activewear

Peloton Digital App

We love the Peoloton digital app subscription because it gives us the freedom to try different types of workouts and you pick the duration. There is something for everyone on this app and it allows us to get in a strength training or other sweat session pretty easily within the busy day. And, don't forget about stretching! Doing 5-15 minutes of stretching daily can really help your body recover from exercise and increased movement. The Peloton app, in addition to cardio and strength workouts, also has guided stretches and yoga classes.

Resistance Bands

Resistance bands are small and compact making them great travel companions so you can get your strength training in no matter where you are. Typically the bands come in a few different resistances, you can level up or down on the resistance to make the work easier or harder. Some members of the Target100 team like to pair a resistance band with a bodyweight strength workout to increase the intensity. One thing to look for it no-slip bands. Nothing worse than a resistance band rolling up your legs. Look for bands that have some non-slip or rubber grip on the inside this these bands.

Kettlebells

Some of our Target100 members have used kettlebells as their reward for achieving milestones in their weight loss journey! Once you find an exercise, and specifically a strength training routine that works for you, it really can be a game changer for your health, how you feel, and how you look. Kettlebell workouts can be interchangeable with dumbbells however given their shape they can give you a slightly different challenge during strength training, which is a good thing for building muscle.

If you are new to kettlebells or looking to change up your strength training Self Magazine has some great workouts and guides for safely doing kettlebell moves. Just starting out - look for a 10 pound of 15 pound kettlebell like this adjustable set.

Jump rope

Jumping rope is a great way to get to a full body workout in. We love that this piece of equipment packs small, travels well, and works for everyone whether you are a beginner or advanced jumper. Jumping is a great way to build bone density and lean muscle mass as well as a great cardiovascular workout. We dare you not to try crossovers and other moves from elementary school days! Our team tends toward the speed rope style like AK! Jump Rope so we can keep working on our double under's.

Wireless Headphones

Nothing worse than yanking your headphones out of your ears in the middle of a jog or power walk! The Target100 team loves working on our Movement and Exercise pillars of the program while listening to music, podcasts, Target100 book on Audible, you name it ... but we prefer to do it with wireless headphones. It just makes life easier. Target100 certified coach Ashanti likes JBL 300 wireless headphones.

Girlfriend Collective Activewear

We have an appreciation for active wear that is designed for all bodies, looks cute, is comfortable to wear and move in. We're big fans of the Girlfriend Collective Activewear for comfortable tops and bottoms in a variety of sizes that stay put so we can focus on getting our steps in or our sweaty glow on without adjusting our clothes. Check out their active wear line here.
